FACT FINDERS: No more rental tax for many of Arizona

As of January 1, renters in Arizona will no longer pay a rental tax, benefiting many with a reduction of one to four percent in their monthly rent. While this change is seen as a relief for renters, it poses a financial challenge for smaller cities like Sierra Vista and South Tucson, which will lose significant revenue. Local officials express concerns about the impact on public services, while state lawmakers encourage cities to seek alternative funding sources. The tax applied only to leases over 30 days and landlords must automatically remove it from rent.
